Wisdom Compassion: Trí Tuệ Từ Bi

This special thangka painting of Medicine Buddha with surrounded with his own mantra border includes the Buddhas of the five families or also known as either the Five Dhyani Wisdom Buddhas or Five Wisdom Tathāgatas on the upper top portion and listed in order from left to right; Ratnasambhava, Akṣobhya, Vairocana, Amitābha and Amoghasiddhi. Also included are his two specific attending bodishattvas Suryaprabha and Candraprabha whom are both shown on the lower bottom portion, measures 36 x 45 inches and is at Lumbini Buddhist Art Gallery in Berkeley, Northern California. The thangka is painted on cotton canvas with the Medicine Buddha's detailed robes and surronding yellow shimmering areas all painted in 24K Gold paint.

 

Otherwise also known as the "King of Medicine Master and Lapis Lazuli Light"), is the Buddha of healing and medicine in Mahāyāna Buddhism. He is described as a doctor who cures dukkha (suffering) using the medicine of his teachings.

Medicine Buddha is described in the Bhaiṣajya-guru-vaiḍūrya-prabhā-rāja Sūtra, commonly called the Medicine Buddha Sūtra, as a bodhisattva who made 12 great vows. On achieving Buddhahood, he became the Buddha of the Eastern pure land of Vaiḍūryanirbhāsa "Pure Lapis Lazuli". There, he is attended to by two bodhisattvas as mentioned above, symbolizing the light of the sun and the light of the moon respectively:
